Trucking IT company Convoy disclosed today that Bono, lead singer of the Irish mega-rock band U2, and The Edge, the group's lead guitarist, have invested in the company. The amount and specifics of the investments were not disclosed.
"Bono and The Edge know more about trucking than you might think," said Dan Lewis, co-founder and CEO of Seattle-based Convoy. "They've spent most of their adult lives touring the world with U2, and trucks are an essential part of moving the show from city to city."
Convoy's IT platform matches shipper loads with truck capacity in an effort to shrink the volume of empty miles operated by truckers. Each year, commercial trucks run empty over 100 billion miles in the U.S. alone.
Convoy and U2 are exploring possible marketing opportunities to support future band tours, but nothing has been determined at this time, according to Sarah Tobis, a Convoy spokeswoman.
