As a sales leader, you must also believe in the power of discipline and doing the things that need to be done, even if those things are tough or challenging. As a leader, you need to figure out the best way to sell instead of looking for someone else's best practices and playbooks. 

Sales leaders need to lean into adversity because they know that selling is hard. This is often overlooked and is the foundation for how Jeff works with leaders of sales teams. 


Your Team as Your Customers

Start thinking of your team as your new customers. They are the ones that you have to ask to do things that you can't do. They're the ones that you have to help solve problems because it's in their best interest to make those sales and solve the problems for their customers.

Thinking this way makes a tremendous difference. Most people think of their team as their subordinates, people who do what they are told because I'm the leader. 

Jeff says that it doesn't often work out like that. This mindset is a big reason that leaders fail. They have expectations that their team is there to do their bidding, and that's a big problem. 

That problem is solved when you reframe your mindset around the people you're leading. When you think about them as your customers and as people you need to help solve problems, that sounds more like a customer relationship.

  • Treat your team as your customers, and you will get better results

  • Be disciplined. Do the hard work yourself, even the stuff you don't want to do.

  • Look at what your pipeline process needs from the perspective of your own business, not someone else’s playbook.

  • Lean into and learn from adversity.
