Women-Led Businesses: Celebrating Female CEOs Making a Difference

In 1987, March was designated as Women’s History Month by congress, going on to be celebrated every year since then. 

Owler shared a social media post celebrating women-led businesses on International Women’s Day (March 8, 2023). Before Women’s History Month comes to a close, we’d like to revisit this list and expand on the featured leaders and their companies producing products many of us use in our day-to-day lives. 

National Women’s Month: Brands Led By Women

Let’s celebrate women’s contributions to the workplace and to society during Women's History Month and all year round. From retail to technology, these women are paving the way for future generations.

Jeni's: Founded in 2002 by Stacy Peterson, Jeni's is a popular ice cream company that has gained national attention for its unique flavors and commitment to using local and seasonal ingredients. Simple Health: Carrie Siu Butt is the CEO of Simple Health, a digital health platform that makes birth control more accessible and affordable for women. Under Butt's leadership, the company has expanded its services and raised millions in funding to support its mission.

Coffee Meets Bagel: Arum Kang is the CEO of Coffee Meets Bagel, a dating app that aims to provide more meaningful connections for users. Kang co-founded the company with her two sisters and has since raised over $19 million in funding.

Lily AI: Purva Gupta is the CEO of Lily AI, an AI-powered personalization platform for e-commerce retailers. Gupta's expertise in machine learning has helped the company attract major clients and secure significant funding.

The Lip Bar: Melissa Butler is the founder and CEO of The Lip Bar, a beauty brand that offers vegan and cruelty-free products for all skin tones. Butler's vision for inclusivity and sustainability has earned her recognition as one of the most influential women in beauty.

General Motors: Mary Barra is the CEO of General Motors, one of the world's largest automobile manufacturers. Barra is the first female CEO of a major global automaker and has been recognized for her leadership in innovation and sustainability.

In-N-Out Burgers: Lynsi Snyder is the CEO of In-N-Out Burgers, a popular fast-food chain based out of California. Snyder is the granddaughter of the company's founder. She worked her way up from an entry-level position to lead the company with a commitment to quality and customer service.
