CIO Ted Ross believes the honeymoon is over for breakneck productivity when it comes to hybrid work, and he’s not the only one. Tech employees at the City of Los Angeles IT agency who were forced to work remotely in the early pandemic days were very efficient, Ross says. “Fully into the pandemic we had a 34% increase in project delivery,” he adds. But since then, productivity and innovation have waned, in part because of fading relationships between once in-person teams, along with a slew of new

It’s easy to sound paranoid when talking about cyber security. Threats actually are everywhere. In your local coffee shop. Lurking on the first page of your favorite search engine. In your email inbox. One small mistake can bring business empires to their knees. It happened to Marriot. It happened to Yahoo. It happened to the Irish healthcare system.

The short answer: yes. And it’s a metrics layer and a metrics store and it’s headless BI too for what it’s worth. I’ve been meaning to blog about this question for a long time now, for two reasons: Customers migrating to Power BI often ask me if Microsoft also has a product or service that can act as a semantic layer, so I need to explain that Power BI is already a semantic layer.

For almost a quarter of a century CIOs have been locked in a Sisyphean battle to attract and retain the IT talent necessary to create competitive advantage. With technological advancement, data revolutionizes many business processes. Experts assert that one of the leverages big businesses enjoy is using data to re-enforce the monopoly they have in the market. Big data is large chunks of information that cannot be dealt with by traditional data processing software. It needs to be analyzed with premium tech tools to deduce insights germane to user experience as well as scaling businesses.

A few weeks ago my colleague Dany Hoter wrote a post on the Azure Data Explorer blog about how using columns on fact tables as dimensions in DirectQuery mode can lead to errors in Power BI. You can read it here: [link]. In the post he mentioned that he could reproduce the same behaviour in SQL Server, so I thought it would be good to show an example of this to raise awareness of the issue because I think it’s one that anyone using DirectQuery mode on any data source is likely to run into.

There was a time when a new release of SQL Server – and therefore a new release of SQL Server Analysis Services – was the most exciting thing in the world for me. New functionality! New things to blog about! Not so now that my focus, and Microsoft’s, is on Power BI and we get cool new functionality there every month. All the same there are still a lot of people running SSAS on-premises and SQL Server 2022 has just been released, so what’s new and is it worth upgrading?

While the proper governance of data is clearly critical to the success of any business intelligence organization, focusing on data governance alone is a huge mistake. Organizations continually fail to generate ROI on their governance initiatives because they are too narrow in scope. To be effective, Business Intelligence (BI) governance must cover both data and visualizations.

While Google is getting better and better at search intent, you should get better at giving the best match for their searches. Keywords are important indicators of how people use to search. The exact match keywords are no longer precise matches, and they will now match with the intent of a search. You should focus on finding close variants of these exact match keywords to reach more people and grow organic traffic to your website.
